Before you can +lightness, you need to know what your parts weigh in the first place. So, this page will be a rolling list of parts that I have weighed either on my bathroom scale or on my hanging scale; some will be from forums or the manufacturer as well. At some point I would like to get a scale that can handle items that don’t register on the hanging scale.
All OEM parts are from a 2003 WRX unless otherwise noted.

This is really helpful! My daily’02 is quite stripped, as I am a huge fan of the Super Taikyu series, as well as the Kanjo racer civics, but I never weighed anything I removed so far.
My two sons both have 6 speeds in their Imprezas, but I plan on swapping in a JDM 5 speed in mine just to help keep the weight down, and I love the 4.44 set up. Never planning on more than a VF34, and I drive like an old lady most of the time, so no worries there.
Thanks! I wanted to keep the 5MT for the weight savings and the simplicity. I do think the 6MT is paired very well with the EJ207, and it makes it a better car. The gearing is nearly perfect, although, I wouldn’t mind a long-ratio setup. That said, I don’t think it is as fun as the 5MT setup. The front diff and the extra weight killed some of my steering response. And there is really no need to spin up to 7 or 8k anymore with the 6MT.
Yep, I read your thoughts when you switched to the 6 speed. Very honest and enlightening details. Much appreciated. The 6 speed is amazing for sure. And I’m no professional racer or anything, but with my car being stripped and still having the 5 speed, it’s amazing how much lighter the car feels compared to my oldest son’s 6 speed bugeye. As you said perfectly, it just feels a bit more fun.
